How to Get to Pratunam Market Bangkok Complete Transportation Guide 2025

Getting to Pratunam Market Bangkok is remarkably convenient thanks to its prime location in the Ratchathewi district of central Bangkok. As Thailand's premier wholesale fashion destination, the market enjoys excellent connectivity via BTS Skytrain, Airport Rail Link, water taxi, public buses, and taxi services. Located just 5 minutes walking distance from Ratchathewi BTS Station and easily accessible from both Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport, Pratunam Market represents one of Bangkok's most accessible major shopping destinations for both tourists and wholesale buyers.

Key Landmarks: Pratunam Market surrounds the iconic Baiyoke Tower (Bangkok's tallest building), Pratunam Center, and Platinum Fashion Mall, making navigation simple for first-time visitors. Multiple transportation options ensure convenient access regardless of your Bangkok location or preferred travel method.

BTS Skytrain to Pratunam Market (Most Convenient)

Ratchathewi BTS Station provides the most direct access to Pratunam Market, with just a 5-minute walk to the main shopping area. Take the BTS Sukhumvit Line to Ratchathewi Station (Station Code: S4), then follow the clearly marked exit signs toward Pratunam Center and Baiyoke Tower.

Step-by-Step from Ratchathewi BTS:

  1. Exit Ratchathewi BTS Station using Exit 1 or Exit 2
  2. Walk south toward the towering Baiyoke Tower (visible landmark)
  3. Pass through Pratunam Center's ground-level access
  4. Enter the main Pratunam Market shopping area
  5. Total walking time: 5 minutes

From Airports via BTS: Suvarnabhumi Airport connects via Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai Station, then transfer to BTS Sukhumvit Line (just 2 stations to Ratchathewi). Don Mueang Airport requires taxi to nearby BTS stations like Mo Chit or Saphan Phut, then BTS connection to Ratchathewi.

Alternative BTS Stations: Phaya Thai Station (6-minute walk) and Chitlom Station (8-minute walk) also provide reasonable access to Pratunam Market, though Ratchathewi remains the optimal choice for minimal walking distance and direct market access.

New Pink Line Extension 2025 - Additional Shopping Access

Expanded Transportation Options: The BTS Pink Line extension to Muang Thong Thani, which opened in May 2025, provides Pratunam Market visitors with exciting opportunities to explore additional shopping districts during their Bangkok trip. While not directly serving Pratunam Market, this new transportation option connects to the broader Bangkok shopping ecosystem.

Pink Line Connection Route: From Pratunam Market, visitors can reach the Pink Line extension by taking BTS to Phaya Thai Station, transferring to Airport Rail Link to Bang Sue Grand Station, then connecting to the Pink Line system. This route opens access to IMPACT Arena shopping events and modern Muang Thong Thani retail centers.

Shopping Integration Strategy: The Pink Line extension complements Pratunam Market visits by offering modern shopping environments with fixed pricing, air-conditioned comfort, and exhibition events that showcase upcoming fashion trends before they reach wholesale markets.

Purple MRT Line Extension - Future Shopping Access

Coming 2027: The Purple MRT Line extension from Tao Poon to Rat Burana, currently 57% complete, will provide Pratunam Market visitors with future access to southern Bangkok shopping districts. This 23.6-kilometer line with 17 stations will create new north-south shopping corridors when it opens.

Shopping Integration: The Purple Line extension will connect with the BTS Silom Line at Wongwian Yai Station, providing Pratunam Market shoppers with efficient access to diverse retail environments in southern Bangkok, complementing the wholesale fashion focus of Pratunam Market.

Water Taxi to Pratunam Market (Scenic Route)

Pratunam Pier Access: Experience authentic Bangkok transportation by taking a Chao Phraya Express Boat to Pratunam Pier, located just moments from the market entrance. This scenic route offers cultural immersion while providing direct access to Thailand's premier wholesale fashion destination.

Water Taxi Directions:

  1. Board Chao Phraya Express Boat at any central Bangkok pier
  2. Take the boat heading upstream (northbound) toward Nonthaburi
  3. Disembark at Pratunam Pier (clearly marked)
  4. Walk across Phetchaburi Road directly to Pratunam Market entrance
  5. Total journey time: 15-30 minutes depending on starting pier

Connection Points: Popular starting piers include Saphan Taksin (BTS connection), Tha Tien (near Grand Palace), and Wat Arun piers. The water taxi route provides scenic views of Bangkok's riverside temples and historic architecture while delivering convenient market access.

Taxi and Private Transportation

Direct Taxi Service: Taxis provide the most comfortable door-to-door service to Pratunam Market. Simply request "Pratunam Market," "Baiyoke Tower," or "Pratunam Center" for immediate recognition. Most Bangkok taxi drivers are familiar with these landmark destinations.

Taxi Cost Estimates:

  • From Suvarnabhumi Airport: 250-400 THB (45-60 minutes)
  • From Don Mueang Airport: 150-250 THB (30-45 minutes)
  • From Khao San Road: 100-150 THB (20-30 minutes)
  • From Sukhumvit area: 80-120 THB (15-25 minutes)

Ride-Hailing Apps: Grab and Bolt provide reliable, app-based transportation with fixed pricing and English-language support. Both services offer consistent access to Pratunam Market with transparent fare estimates and GPS navigation support.

From Khao San Road

Only about 6km from Khao San Road to Pratunam Market, so it can be done in a taxi. But also there is a bus for this route which is very convenient.  Bus 183 on Ratchadamoen Klang can take you directly there. Get off the bus on Phetchaburi Road outside the IT City / Panthip Computer Plaza building on your right, with the big blue walkway over the road.

Walk forward until you have gone under the walkway and take the turning on the left, it will be Phetchaburi  Soi 17.  The sign says "Phetchaburi 17, So Som Prasong 4".  Take this small lane until it ends and you can see boutiques, turn right and walk into Ratchaprarop for the rest of the market area.

From Bangkok Don Muang Airport

It is best to take a taxi from the airpot as it is over 21 km from the Bangkok Airport to the Pratunam Market, and with busy traffic it will still take more than half an hour. However for more economical it is also possible to use the bus.  There is a bus 187 which will leave from the airport and go very close to the market.

The bus leaves from Don Muang railway station, so follow sign to railway from within the Airport. You need bus 187 towards Tha Si Phraya, but get off the bus at Soi Ko Lit.  Then it is walking from here, it is still a medium distance way to the market, more than 900 meters.  It is easiest to take a taxi for this last short piece of the trip.

Another way is to use the Airport Link train, which can take you from the Don Muang Airport to the Airport Link Ratchaparok station.

From Sukhumvit

If you are on Sukhumvit then use the BTS train to go to the Phaya Thai BTS Station‎, this is the closest station to the market. But from here the way is a bit complex so ask a taxi to take you to the Market or to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel.

Bobae Market in Rattanakosin

Bobae Market which is a sister to Pratunam! While Pratunam is the premier wholesale garment market in Bangkok Bobae has many interesting things as well.

Similar discount garment shops, but much more outdoor stalls are to be found at Bo Bae. Located on Krung Kasem Road look for the Bridges.

Bobae Tower building is where more shops are located, here small quantities are welcomed but much of the business is for Russian buyers. Both Market and the Tower open early in the morning, by 6am, but also closed by 6pm. There is no night market at Bo Bae Market.
